PROJECTS

  • We will shortly begin repairs the Mausoleum. This includes restoring the damage done to the mausoleum during a recent break-in. It includes repairs to the tabernacle, door lock, roof door glass, repairs to broken stained glass windows and repairs to stop rain ingress on the roof. This project requires oversight of an archaeologist and specialist glass reconstruction and staining as well as building input and replacement of the roof door glass. Fahy and O Connor local suppliers have kindly sponsored the door-glass replacement.
  • Digital mapping of the Church of Ireland cemetery. This cemetery lies in the heart of the village beside the playground and we want to document the names and some material about the lives of those buried there in our historic village. The project requires the input of an archaeologist, purchase of software and training in recording headstone inscriptions, drone photography, production of a map to show the layout of the graves and erection of an onsite map of the graveyard. Software and techniques used for this project could also be used to digitise other local cemeteries and historic sites so that information would be searchable on the internet.
  • We are building and maintaining our website. All donation amounts are welcome.
  • We are gathering stories locally about times gone by . Monivea National school are partnering with Monivea Heritage Association to gather stories compiled by children during the Covid lockdown. The stories are from older people in our community about times past. We are happy to receive articles, booklets photographs and anything you might have such as old receipts, items detailing life on ffrenches estate, Ryehill house, or Crumlin park etc., school photographs, sporting and business stories from days gone by. If you would like to share with us we are happy to receive scopies of material by e mail: monivea.heritage@yahoo.com. We are interested too in hearing stories of people who might have emigrated and who would like to make contact with our Association. Our diaspora are an important part of our heritage and their input and stories are an integral part of our community and our history .
  • We hope to present talks on zoom or live about aspects of our local area.
  • We want to arrange days trips or local walks to our historic sites when the pandemic restrictions have eased.
  • Make a financial contribution towards our projects, sponsor an event or a piece of work or take out a membership of our group.
